In October 2006, Dr. Marshall Conley, President of the Conley International based in Canada and Ms Rumiko Seya, Secretary General of the Japan Center for Conflict Prevention, met with MOPGEL Executive Staff in Ghana at the Buduburam Refugee Camp.
During the discussions, we briefed them about the challenges of the organization and they were impressed with the level of work being done and the condition under which MOPGEL is working, both Dr. Conley and Ms. Seya decided to get involved.
At the end of 2006, the concept of fund-raising was born bringing together a number of private donors that decided to join. On March 14, 2007, an amount of three thousand two hundred (US$3, 200) was raised and sent to the organization. Twenty Five (25) computers were bought to expand the “MOPGEL ICT Literacy & Digital Campaign.”
On May 4, 2007, the fund-raisers donated medical equipment to also help expand “MOPGEL MEDICAL PROJECT”, which offers free treatment to children (5-14 year) and people with disabilities. After those donations, there was also a need for a generator and again the fund-raisers bought a 6.5KVA generator on May 26, 2007.
During the visit of Dr.Conley and Ms Seya, the need to return home was finalized. Our fund-raisers would therefore start a new fundraising for Liberia. We therefore inspire you to join our fund raising.
